Match Scanner Receiving Machine — Prototype P1

Fabrication drawing set · linear bench configuration · single unit
What this document is. This is a set of workshop drawings for building one prototype machine. Each sheet shows the machine from a different direction, drawn to scale, with measurements in millimetres. A metal fabrication shop reads these to quote the job and cut the parts. Every sheet has a blue box like this one explaining, in plain language, what that sheet is asking the shop to make.

Scope of supply — what the shop builds

  • Aluminium extrusion frame, cut, tapped, and assembled (DET-01)
  • Stainless hopper bin, folded and welded, with pivot and actuator brackets (DET-02)
  • Three belt conveyor modules with side walls and transfer plates (DET-03)
  • Camera arch weldment with mounting faces (DET-04)
  • Sheet-metal guards, access lid with hinge, electronics tray, tote drawer rails
  • Assembly of purchased items (motors, cameras, lights, controls) into the frame

Not in scope

  • Cameras, lenses, lighting, compute, and software — supplied by client
  • Control software, wiring schematics beyond the block diagram on sheet BOM
  • Certification testing (UL/FCC) — production phase, not this prototype

General notes

1. UnitsAll dimensions in millimetres (mm) unless noted. Angles in degrees.
2. ToleranceGeneral ±1.0 mm. Belt-module mounting faces and camera-arch mounting faces ±0.3 mm. Frame diagonals square within 1.5 mm over 1300 mm.
3. MaterialsFrame: 30 × 30 mm aluminium T-slot extrusion, 8 mm slot. Hopper: 2.0 mm stainless 304, No. 4 finish. Guards and trays: 1.5 mm mild steel, powder-coated matt black RAL 9005. Guide rails: 1.5 mm stainless faced with 3 mm UHMW-PE.
4. EdgesBreak all sharp edges. Any surface that product touches must be smooth; internal corners of the hopper radiused R15 minimum.
5. FastenersStainless A2. T-slot connections use manufacturer's standard corner brackets and T-nuts. No self-tapping screws in the product path.
6. FinishFrame anodised black. Interior surfaces facing the cameras to be matt, non-reflective. No glossy or mirrored surfaces inside the imaging zone.
7. SafetyAccess lid to be interlocked (switch supplied by client). Guard all belt nip points. Emergency-stop cut-out on front panel.
8. ServiceEvery belt module must be removable as a unit through the top with the lid open, using hand tools only.
Important — read before quoting or cutting. This set defines the intended arrangement, sizes, and relationships of the parts. It is a prototype-intent package, not a production release. Bracket details, weld sizes, and fastener schedules are left to the fabricator's normal practice and should be confirmed in writing before manufacture. A qualified mechanical engineer must review the final shop drawings. Belt speeds and the tilt mechanism will be tuned on the finished machine, so mounting slots should allow ±10 mm of adjustment wherever shown.

GA-01 · Side elevation

Viewed from the operator's left. Product flows left → right. Scale 1:5
What this sheet shows. The machine seen from the side, as if the near wall were removed. Boxes are tipped out of the hopper on the left, land on the first belt, drop 60 mm onto a faster second belt, drop another 40 mm onto the third belt, pass under the camera arch, and fall into the tote at the right. The three different belt heights are the whole point of the machine — the drops and speed changes are what pull a pile of boxes apart into a single spaced line.

GA-02 · Plan view

Viewed from above, lid and hopper removed for clarity. Scale 1:5
What this sheet shows. The machine seen from directly above, so you can read the widths. The key feature here is on belt 2: the side rails start 220 mm apart and squeeze in to 170 mm. That squeeze is what turns boxes travelling side by side into boxes travelling one behind the other, so the cameras can see each one on its own.

GA-03 · End elevation & section A–A through camera arch

Looking along the belt, from the discharge end. Scale 1:4
What this sheet shows. A slice through the machine at the camera arch, as if it were cut across and you were looking at the cut face. This is the sheet that sets where the five cameras go and how much clear space a box has to pass through — 260 mm wide by 250 mm tall. If the arch is built even slightly out of position, the cameras will not see what they are meant to see, so the mounting faces on this sheet are the tightest tolerance in the machine (±0.3 mm).

Mounting: each camera sits on a flat machined pad with an M4 × 4 pattern (25 mm square) and a slotted arc allowing ±15° of aim adjustment. Pads must be co-planar within 0.3 mm.

DET-01 · Frame — extrusion cut list and joints

30 × 30 mm aluminium T-slot, 8 mm slot. Scale 1:8
What this sheet shows. The skeleton of the machine, built from aluminium bars that bolt together like a construction set (T-slot extrusion). The table lists every bar the shop needs to cut and how many. Nothing here is welded — it all bolts, which means the frame can be adjusted later if a belt needs to move.

Why it bolts instead of welds. This is a first prototype. Belt heights and the hopper angle will almost certainly need adjusting once it runs with real product. A bolted frame lets that happen with a spanner instead of a cutting torch.

Squareness check before handover

Measure both diagonals of the base rectangle and both diagonals of each side face. Each pair must match within 1.5 mm. Record the four readings on the delivery note.

DET-02 · Hopper assembly and tilt geometry

2.0 mm stainless 304, folded and welded. Scale 1:4
What this sheet shows. The bin the operator empties the carton into, and the arm that tips it. The bin hangs on a hinge along its front bottom edge; a small electric ram at the back pushes it up, and boxes slide out over the lip. It only ever moves slowly and only a little — the machine controls how far it tips based on what the camera above the first belt sees.

Material2.0 mm stainless 304, No. 4 finish, folded; corners seam-welded and ground smooth
Internal radiiR15 minimum at every internal corner — no sharp pockets for boxes to wedge into

Rest angle−5° (tipped slightly back) so nothing creeps out when idle
Working range0° to +25°, driven by actuator; end stops fitted at both limits

Lever arm from pivot to actuator centreline is 247 mm. Figures are nominal; confirm on the built machine and record actual values.

Speed limit. The actuator must be geared or driven so the bin cannot tip faster than 3° per second. A fast tip dumps the whole load at once and defeats the purpose of the machine.

DET-03 · Belt modules, waterfalls and side guides

Typical belt module shown; three required. Scale 1:4
What this sheet shows. How one conveyor is built, and how each one hands over to the next. Each belt runs faster than the one before it — that speed difference is what pulls boxes apart. The small step down between belts (the “waterfall”) shakes apart any boxes sitting on top of each other.

Belt 3 inspection350 × 2003500.45–0.50

Speed ratio must be approximately 1 : 2 : 3. Each belt is independently driven and independently adjustable. Do not gang them to one motor.

Common to all three modules

  • Belt: 2 mm matt PVC, food-grade, matt mid-grey — not white, not black, not glossy
  • Pulleys Ø50 mm, crowned, one driven and one take-up with ±10 mm tension slot
  • Slider bed: 3 mm UHMW-PE on 2 mm steel plate
  • Side walls 60 mm tall, faced with UHMW-PE where product touches
  • Each module removable through the top as a single unit, hand tools only
  • Drive: 24 V BLDC gearmotor with speed control; belt 3 additionally has a ≥1000 CPR shaft encoder

Exit width170 mm
Convergence12° each side over the first 118 mm, then parallel
SymmetrySymmetrical about the belt centreline within 1 mm
AdjustmentSlotted mounts, ±10 mm, so the exit width can be tuned on site
Nothing may catch a box. Every joint the product passes must be flush or stepped downward in the direction of travel. An upward step of even 1 mm will tip and jam a light carton.
